Abstract

PT Suryaraya Rubberindo Industries adalah salah satu perusahaan yang bergerak dibidang manufacturing penghasil ban luar dan ban dalam khusus sepeda motor. PT Suryaraya Rubberindo Industries harus dapat menyakinkan pasar bahwa produk yang dihasilkan mempunyai kualitas terbaik sehingga dapat mengungguli para pesaingnya. Komponen penting penyusun ban luar yang perlu dijaga kualitasnya yaitu kompon tread. Kualitas kompon tread paling baik dapat dicapai dengan carbon black X sebagai bahan pengisi. Seiring dengan jumlah produksi kompon tread yang terus meningkat, maka kebutuhan carbon black X juga turut meningkat. Alternatif perusahaan dalam mencukupi kebutuhan carbon black X yaitu dengan menggunakan carbon black A, carbon black B, dan carbon black C. Pengujian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik carbon black A, carbon black B, dan carbon black C yang dapat menghasilkan kompon tread ban luar sepeda motor sesuai standar mutu kompon yang telah ditetapkan oleh perusahaan. Pengujian dilakukan dalam skala laboratorium meliputi pengujian material, pengujian kompon, dan pengujian vulkanisat kompon. Pengujian material meliputi uji kadar air, uji adsorpsi dan uji kekerasan pellet. Pengujian kompon meliputi uji kematangan, uji viskositas mooney, uji bobot jenis, dan uji kekerasan. Pengujian vulkanisat kompon meliputi modulus 300%, tegangan putus, perpanjangan putus, ketahanan sobek, ketahanan kikis, pengusangan, dan ketahanan retak lentur. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian dapat diketahui bahwa karakteristik carbon black paling baik yang dapat menghasilkan kompon tread ban luar sepeda motor sesuai standar mutu kompon yang telah ditetapkan oleh perusahaan adalah carbon black B dengan kadar air 1,79 %, daya adsorpsi 122,14 mg/g dan kekerasan pellet 22,60 gram. PT Suryaraya Rubberindo Industries is one of the manufacturing companies producting tires and tubes for motorcycles. PT Suryaraya Rubberindo Industries must convince the tires and tubes marketplace that its product has the best quality among others. In order to maintain the quality of the products, an important component kept is tread compounds. The best quality of tread compounds can be achieved with carbon black X as filler. Along with the increeasing demand of compunds production, the need of carbon black X also increases. The alternative way of the company to fulfill the demand carbon X is using carbon black A, carbon black B, and carbon black C. Aims of the test is to find out characteristic of carbon black A, carbon black B, and carbon black C which can produce tire tread compounds of motorcycle to reach the quality standards of the compounds that have been set by the company. Testing conducted in laboratory scale including material testing, compound testing, and compound physical testing. Material testing includes moisture content, adsorption number, and pellet hardness. Compound testing includes rheometer tester, mooney viscosity, density, and hardness. Compound physical testing includes modulus 300%, elongation, elongation at break, tear strength, abrasion, aging, and flex crack resistance. Based on the results of the test show that the best characteristics of carbon black that can reach the company's quality standard of the compounds is carbon black B with moisture content 1.79%, adsorption number 122.14 mg/g and pellet hardness 22.60 grams.
