Abstract

PT SS Utama is a manufacturing company engaged in the field of shoes or footwear, which is located at Jl. Tanjung Sari No. 5A, Surabaya. Observations were made from November 14 2022 to April 14 2023 in the Saint Barklay x Sole Superior shoe assembling division. The purpose of writing this Final Project is to identify and provide a solution for asymmetrical toe cap installation on vulcanized shoes. Operators who are not focused during the lasting process cause the toe cap marking to tilt or shift, this affects the installation of the rubber toe cap to be asymmetrical, so there is no standard size standard for each size. Another contributing factor is the absence of a specific SOP in the assembling division. Based on the data obtained, the installation of an asymmetrical rubber toe cap is the highest defect and is included in the category of major defects which is very important to be addressed immediately. Rework (rework) is carried out resulting in wastage of time, effort, and costs by the company. Data collection was carried out by observation, interview and documentation methods. Data were analyzed using Statistical Process Control (SPC), including pareto charts, control charts, and cause & effect diagrams. The solution to fixing the problem of reducing defects in the installation of an asymmetrical rubber toe cap is to make a marking toe cap tool and develop a specific SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the lasting process. The marking toe cap tool was made with a trial process of 3 times after which it was tested by the pattern maker in the development division. The results of the testing of the toe cap marking tool proved to be accurate and successful. Keywords: assistive devices, toe cap, asymmetrical
