Abstract

Implementation of the final project aims to find a solution to the problem of stacking reject 3 quality ridding glove goat skins into finish leather that meets consumer standards. Reject 3 quality leather is goatskin leather with asymmetrical skin shape, damage to all parts of the skin, and defects of more than 40% of the skin area. The sale of reject 3 leather is sold at a low price so that it is not profitable for the company and the finishing process needs to be done to improve the quality of the leather. The data collection method consists of observation, interview, field work practice, trial, and expert judgment. The raw materials used were 2 pieces of reject 3 quality goatskin. The finishing process consists of adhesion, base coat, medium coat, top coat, milling and stacking. The finishing process of leather A in the medium coat does not use aqueous polymer dispersion, while leather B uses the material. From the organoleptic and physical testing results, leather A has an average damage of 20-40% and a packing of 5.82 mm, while leather B has an average damage of less than 20% and a packing of 5.72 mm. consumer standard is less than 20% damage and more than 5.7 mm packing. Leather A improved in quality from reject 3 to reject 1 and leather B improved in quality from reject 3 to reject 2. Leather A does not meet consumer standards, while Leather B meets consumer standards.
