Abstract

Imitation leather is artificial leather that is made to resemble real leather. Currently imitation leather is very popular because it can replace genuine leather in various applications at a lower price so that it is easily affordable by the public. In making imitation leather, it also produces by-products, namely smoke waste. In order not to pollute the environment, the smoke waste undergoes a condensation process to become pleather liquid smoke. For this reason, an experiment was carried out on the use of pleather liquid smoke waste for binders. This final work aims to determine the effect of using liquid smoke drying pleather (plastic leather) on the adhesion of single coating imitation leather. This experiment was carried out by combining pleather liquid smoke with DINP in a ratio of 0:60 , 10 : 50 , 20:40 , 30:30 , 40:20 , 50:10 and 60:0 . From the experimental results it was found that for the 20:40 formulation the optimal test value was 15 N/cm for a binder thickness of 0.5 and a value of 18 N/cm for a binder thickness of 1 mm. Apart from that, the viscosity and thickness of the binder also affect the adhesion test results. The optimal viscosity value ranges from 33 Pa.S to 37 Pa.S, this is in line with the adhesion test values produced at a viscosity of 33 Pa.S to 37 Pa.S having a value of 14 N/cm to 21 N/cm. The thickness of the binder also affects the results of the adhesion test, this is evidenced by the adhesive test value with a thickness of 1 mm which produces a higher test value when compared to the adhesive test value with a thickness of 0.5 mm Keywords : adhesion, binder, DINP, imitation leather, pleather liquid smoke,
