Abstract
Rubber powder waste will cause serious and complicated problems. The main problem of rubber powder waste is the air pollution caused when it is burned, and the time it takes to decompose in nature due to degradation. The amount of waste generated by PT Sekar Wangi Rubber is quite large and has the potential to be recycled. Problem-solving in the Final Project aims to know the effect of using rubber powder waste filler on processability, the mechanical properties of sealing rubber, and the best compound formulation to produce sealing rubber products with the best quality according to SNI and relatively cheap material cost efficiency. The final project completion method uses experimental and testing methods with four formulation variations. The variation used is the ratio of carbon black filler and rubber powder waste, namely 60:0, 45:15, 30:30, and 15:45. Based on the results of experiments and tests, it shows that the more rubber powder waste is added, the ability of the molding process time will be shorter, and the hardness value will increase. While the value of tensile strength and elongation at break will also increase, adding a certain amount has decreased. The cost of carbon black in each formulation has decreased, and all samples meet the standards used. The best formulation is formulation C using carbon black and waste rubber powder 30 phr. The selection of the best formulation is based on the optimum value of the test results with the ability of the vulcanization time process for 179 seconds, a hardness value of 63 shore-A, a tensile strength of 12,887 N/mm2, an elongation at break of 738,022% and a considerable difference in material costs from the company's formulation of 50,15% with a decrease of Rp. 5.445.
