Abstract

PT AMSA Mulia Bersama operate in skin leather tannery. The problem in this tannery is the low quality of the leather used for the pearl white golf glove, especially skin loose. The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of the pearl white golf glove leather through treatment in the retanning process. The problem-solving method involves varying the percentage of resin used in the retanning process. The raw material used is wet blue sheep leather of quality D and E, with a thickness of 0.45 mm–0.55 mm and an average area of 5.5 sqft–5.7 sqft. The retanning materials consist of TiO2, HCOOH, CH3COONa, sulphited oil, glutaraldehyde, chromium, and resin. Trial consist of three treatments: retanning without the addition of resin, retanning with the addition of 2% resin, and retanning with the addition of 4% resin. Organoleptic tests for density and handle smoothness of the leather show that the addition of 4% resin yields the best results, being sufficiently dense and very smooth. The thickness, flexibility, tensile strength, and elongation values from the three treatments meet customer standards and SNI 06-0777-1996, while the tear strength values from the three treatments do not meet the SNI 06-0777-1996 standard but do meet customer requirements. It is concluded that the addition of 4% resin in the retanning process results in the best quality pearl white golf glove leather.
