Abstract

The aim of writing this final assignment is to help solve problems in the tanning process, namely increasing the thickness of the wet blue leather in the batting glove article. This writing is to determine the effect of protein fillers on the tanning process, especially on the thickness and density of wet blue skin. The raw material used is 2 pieces of pickle skin with VI quality. The chemical used to improve skin thickness is a protein filler, namely chemical Tafigal P. The protein filler does not change the characteristics of wet blue skin because the nature of the protein filler is soft, provides a soft touch, and has a smooth effect on the skin pores. The results of the organoleptic test, the softness and evenness of the chrome color of the wet blue leather showed a scale of 4 with the information weak and flat, the density of the skin showed a filled/dense result because the repaired skin was not loose. The results of physical skin testing showed that the average thickness of the repair skin on the neck, croup and belly was 1.3 mm, 1.1 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively. This shows that the thickness meets customer standards. The boillingin test on repaired skin produces a value of 0% or no skin shrinkage occurs. The results of the organoleptic and physical tests on the wet blue leather of the batting glove article met the standards desired by the customer.
