Abstract

Field duty boots are a type of footwear specifically designed for outdoor activities, requiring a high level of comfort, durability, and overall quality to support users in physically demanding environments. During the production of the Zephyrus 6.2 field duty boots at PT Venamon, a problem was identified in the assembling stage: the bonding test results did not meet the required quality standards. The issue was traced to improper bonding techniques between the upper and outsole components, as well as excessive waiting time during assembly, which reduced the adhesive’s effectiveness. This study aims to investigate and analyze the root causes of the failed bonding test results, formulate appropriate corrective actions, and identify optimization efforts to improve the bonding process between the outsole and upper components. Analytical methods used include a fishbone diagram to determine root causes and a daily defect checksheet to monitor the defect rate during the assembling stage. Corrective measures focused on technical improvements such as modifying the bonding sequence, applying specific treatment to the backcounter by curving it approximately 25°, and marking precise bonding and pressing boundaries to minimize idle time. The results show a significant improvement in bonding quality, enhanced production consistency, and a notable reduction in defective products for the Zephyrus 6.2 field duty boots.
