Abstract
Industri penyamakan kulit menghasilkan limbah cair dengan kandungan bahan organik dan anorganik yang tinggi, khususnya pada tahap finishing, sehingga berpotensi mencemari lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi efisiensi removal proses elektrokoagulasi dalam menurunkan kadar BOD, COD, dan TSS pada limbah cair finishing kulit di PT. XYZ Indonesia, serta menentukan kombinasi tegangan dan waktu kontak yang optimal. Proses elektrokoagulasi menggunakan elektroda aluminium sebagai anoda dan besi sebagai katoda, dengan variasi tegangan 3 V, 9 V, dan 12 V, serta waktu kontak 60, 120, dan 180 menit. Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi BOD, COD, TSS, dan pH. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan efisiensi removal tertinggi pada tegangan 12 V selama 180 menit, dengan kadar akhir COD 85 mg/L (95,62%), BOD 48,2 mg/L (94,93%), dan TSS 31 mg/L (89,12%). Nilai pH akhir berada pada kisaran netral (7–7,6) dan memenuhi baku mutu sesuai Permen LHK No. 5 Tahun 2014. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa elektrokoagulasi efektif dan berpotensi menjadi teknologi pengolahan limbah cair finishing kulit yang efisien dan ramah lingkungan di industri penyamakan. . Kata kunci: elektrokoagulasi, limbah cair finishing kulit, tegangan listrik, waktu kontak, efisiensi removal, BOD, COD, TSS The leather tanning industry produces wastewater with high concentrations of organic and inorganic substances, particularly during the finishing stage, which poses a potential threat to the environment. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency removal of the electrocoagulation process in reducing BOD, COD, and TSS levels in finishing wastewater at PT. XYZ Indonesia, as well as to determine the optimal combination of voltage and contact time. Electrocoagulation was carried out using aluminum as the anode and iron as the cathode, with voltage variations of 3 V, 9 V, and 12 V, and contact times of 60, 120, and 180 minutes. Parameters analyzed included BOD, COD, TSS, and pH. The highest removal efficiency was obtained at 12 V for 180 minutes, resulting in final concentrations of COD at 85 mg/L (95.62%), BOD at 48.2 mg/L (94.93%), and TSS at 31 mg/L (89.12%). The final pH ranged from 7 to 7.6, meeting the quality standards stipulated in the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 5 of 2014. These findings indicate that electrocoagulation is effective and has the potential to serve as an efficient and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment technology for the leather tanning industry.
