Abstract
Product quality is closely related to it’s physical condition, which must meet consumer needs and preferences. To prevent cacative products, an appropriate quality control method is required, one of which is the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) approach. This study was conducted at PT Natamas Plast, a plastic packaging manufacturing company, focusing on the yoghurt 70 ml bottle, which recorded the highest defect rate in the blow molding area, totaling 156.403 pcs, with the dominant defect being uneven wall thickness. The objective of this research is to reduce uneven thickness defects and improve production efficiency. Improvements were implemented through the development and application of a check sheet, 360° visual inspection, shift-start briefings, routine training every two months, and material dimension monitoring by quality control (QC). The application of the DMAIC method resulted in a reduction of defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) from 4,390 to 1,249 and an increase in sigma level from 4.12 to 4.52. These findings demonstrate that the DMAIC method is effective in enhancing both product quality and production efficiency in the plastic packaging manufacturing industry.
