Abstract

PT Sun Lee Jaya is a company in the leather tanning sector, specifically in the production of upper shoes, handbags, gloves, and insoles. This company processes large hides from the retanning stage to become finished leather. The problem that arises is loose leather due to being exposed to flooding and stored for more than 3 months in the warehouse, causing a decrease in the quality of the leather. The purpose of this Final Project is to identify the factors causing the decrease in the quality of CGB crust leather, to know how to repair loose leather, to know the quality of leather after upgrading Corrected Grain Box (CGB) crust leather with embossed pigmented finishing for upper shoe articles at PT. Sun Lee Jaya. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, fieldwork, trials, and literature studies. The raw material used was 1 shide of CGB crust leather with an area of 22 sqft and a thickness of 1.7 mm. The impregnation process was carried out to fill the loose leather and reduce the absorption of finishing materials. The materials used include water as a solvent, Sanresin IMP 8876 and Sanresin IMP 8819 as fillers, and 8620-PP as an impregnation accelerator. The repairs was carried out using an embossed pigmented finishing method. The organoleptic tests yielded excellent results in the tape test, paint cracking, touch sensation, color evenness, looseness test, and resilience test. The physical test results for tensile strength were 115.72 kg/cm², which falls short of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) minimum of 225 kg/cm². The wet and dry rubbing resistance tests obtained a score of 5 (no fading), meeting the SNI standard, and the shrinkage test showed a score of 0%.
