Abstract

PT Massyndo Gemilang is a company engaged in the field of leather tanning. In the production process there are problems with paint adhesion and paint rubbing resistance in the finishing layer of the upper article. The purpose of this final project is to determine the effect of the use of binders in the finishing layer on paint adhesion, rubbing resistance and leather flexibility with variations in the use of acrylic and polyurethane binders in upper white articles at PT Massyndo Gemilang. The raw materials used are 3 pieces of crust sheepskin. In this study, 3 improvement trials were carried out, the first using the factory formulation (52 gr polyurethane), the second using a variation formulation of 1: 3 (13 gr and 38 gr acrylic binder), while the third trial using acrylic binder (52 gr acrylic). The results of each trial that had the highest value in the paint adhesion test and rubbing resistance test were using a variation of 1: 3 (trial 2), with the results of paint adhesion carried out organoleptically having a high value, and the value of the rubbing test by organoleptic means was also high. In the physical test of rubbing resistance using a wet cloth has a value of 4 (does not fade) and a dry cloth 5 (does not fade), and the skin is also limp according to customer standards and SNI standards number 4901: 2009. The conclusion obtained is that the use of 1: 3 variation materials has better and maximum results because each of these materials has its own advantages so it can produce good quality final leather results.
