Abstract

The footwear industry in Indonesian is experiencing rapid growth, encouraging PT Venamon to continue to improve the quality of its products, including Lethal article PDH shoes. The problems found in the form of adhesive strength that does not meet the standards and x-ray defects in the vamp and back counter are the background for this final project. This research aims to identify the causes of problems in the assembling process and find solutions for improvement. The method used to solve the problem of adhesion strength that doesmeet the minimum standards is to use experiments through three variations of peel tests to determine the most efficient buffing treatment in increasing the adhesion strength of the upper with the outsole. The variations used include: method I (buffing the upper), method II (buffing the outsole), and method III (buffing the upper and outsole). The test results show that method II produces an adhesive strength value that meets the minimum standard of 2,5 and has broken material, and is more efficient because it does not require an additional buffing process on the upper. Improvements were also made to the vamp material with the addition of reinforcement and skiving on the in counter, which proved to be able to eliminate x-ray defects.
